The owner of Galela Telecommunication is Thami Mtshali.
Mr Mtshali is the Chairman of iBurst Africa and Chief Executive Officer of WBS. In addition, Thami is the founding member of WBS. A chemical engineer by profession with a M.Sc in Chemical Engineering from Akron University (Ohio) and BSc from the prestigious Tuskegee Institute (Alabama). A serial entrepreneur, Thami has extensive experience in telecom munications, which includes the following:

Founded Comstar, a company whose main goal was to secure CDMA and GSM licenses across Africa. Comstar was later sold out to Telemax, the Mexican telecommunication giant. Founded Outernet Solutions Limited. Outernet’s main operation was to provide a virtual prepaid payment solution to GSM operators using Point of Sales devises and GSM infrastructure (as opposed to physical scratch cards which were by far more expensive than the virtual prepaid payment solution). Using local partners, Outernet successfully rolled out in Uganda (Celtel Uganda) and Malawi (Telkom Malawi).

Founded WBS Solutions Limited, initially to provide Uthingo (which exclusively runs the South African Lottery) with a narrowband-based network backbone for the lottery. This was done in partnership with GTEC, a US based company, and the largest lottery company in the world, supplying equipment or managing facilities for 80 of the 128 on-line lotteries around the world. The Uthingo experience formed the basis on which WBS entered into the wireless broadband solution space.

In 2004, Thami successfully led WBS through a strategic shift of focus toward mobile broadband wireless (internet access). The result was the launch of the iBurst SA (Pty) Ltd business providing mobile wireless internet access to the public (individuals and corporate entities).
